Spirit of Yuri’s Night Award

The award recognizes “a person or team that embodies the Yuri’s Night mission by using music and art to make space cool.” Previous recipients include: the bands Duran Duran and OK Go; astronauts including Chris Hadfield, Anousheh Ansari, and Ron Garan; video game developer and second-generation astronaut Richard Garriott de Cayeux; and the all-civilian crew of Inspiration4. See all the previous Award winners.

The Spirit of Yuri’s Night Award itself is a beautiful 8.5″ globe depicting the Earth with clouds, provided by MOVA. It rotates slowly when placed in light (no batteries required!) to remind us all that we all crew on this spaceship Earth.

HUGE THANKS goes to our incredible

VOLUNTEER TEAM that put this whole event together!

Be sure to eat a good dinner before you come at 6pm. We will have a table of bite sizable eats (usually under the Space Shuttle Main Engines) to keep you going but it doesn’t always last! There is no food available for sale on site so plan accordingly!

Since this is a night club environment we don’t encourage people to bring kids. But just like at Burning Man, some people will. If you would bring your kids to Burning Man, feel free to bring them to Yuri’s Night. We are only checking your age if you want to drink. If you are looking for a Yuri’s Night event designed for kids, please check out Yuri’s Night Kids at the Columbia Memorial Space Center in nearby Downey.

Yuri’s Night is a grassroots annual event with hundreds of parties around the globe (and beyond!) centered around April 12, the anniversary of the first human spaceflight and the first launch of the space shuttle. These events celebrate all that humanity brings with us as we explore the cosmos: music, art, science, culture, and each other! Local groups, science centers, museums, NGOs, and other non-profit groups independently produce events in the US and worldwide. We use space to bring the world together, to empower the greatest parts of who we are, and give vision to where we are going.

Yuri’s Night L.A. will be filled with dancing, drinks, art, costumes, and all things space. You might bump into an astronaut, a rocket scientist or Mars rover mission controller at the party… You start at the pre-party with trust games to meet your crewmates, then listen to a space explorer share her experience first hand, then we bring the lights down for you to take your own epic journey. Every room will be filled with art and immersive entertainment.  DJs will be spinning until midnight and we will be dancing under the Space Shuttle Endeavour at the Samuel Oschin Space Shuttle Endeavour Pavilion celebrating space, art and the power to bring us all together here on our beloved home world.
