The Students for the Exploration and Development of Space chapter of the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez (SEDS-UPRM) invites you to its first Yuri’s Night event!
It will consist of an observation night–that is, a night where astronomers (amateur, backyard and professionals alike) bring their telescopes for the general public to view the stars through. There will be an estimate of 5 to 10 telescopes, all of different shapes and sizes, situated at different points on the park. Each will be viewing a different night sky object–from planets to even nebulae! Guests are also welcomed to bring blankets, so they can stargaze comfortably over the grass.
Additional to the telescopes, there will be various info-booths around the park, each featuring an organization from the UPRM. The booths will have organizations about engineering, chemistry, astrobiology, and even startup platforms! SEDS-UPRM will also have various demonstration booths around the park, so that the public can learn on the different STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) fields that are needed for space exploration.
To raise funds for this starting organization, SEDS-UPRM will also be running a small snacks sale. Things like chips, doughnuts, and sodas will be sold to the general public. Prices will range from $1 to $2 per item.
The Observation Night will take place at the Rincón Lighthouse–combining the soothing sounds of the waves, the gentle constant of the Lighthouse’s rotation, and the diminished light pollution to create a night that’ll surely be out of this world!
All activities in this event will be free of charge, and available for the general public.
