Yuri’s Night is a global celebration of humanity’s past, present, and future in space. Yuri’s Night parties and events are held around the world every April in commemoration of Yuri Gagarin becoming the first human to venture into space on April 12, 1961, and the inaugural launch of the first Space Shuttle on April 12, 1981.
Join the Canadian Space Society Vancouver Chapter in the celebration! Together with the Starry Nights team at the Trottier Observatory in Simon Fraser University, check out the observatory and the science plaza and learn about this meaningful date for space exploration. We will be featuring the film First Orbit, created by Chris Riley in association with Yuri’s Night, which uses orbital footage from the International Space Station to reproduce the view of Earth that Yuri Gagarin saw on his historic flight.
This is a free event, but please register through the Eventbrite link. There is paid parking at the Parking Lot B and the Parkade of Simon Fraser University (SFU). Maps and directions to SFU and the Trottier Observatory can be found here.
