A few weeks ago, hundreds of students came together in Durham, North Carolina to discuss the future of humanity in space. Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS), founded in 1980 by Bob Richards, Peter Diamandis and Todd Hawley, has chapters at 30 colleges and institutions around the world–and each year, these chapters meet up at SEDS’ SpaceVision conference.
Yuri’s Night and SEDS go way back–SEDS chapters have hosted some of our most exciting Yuri’s Night parties, and many Global Team volunteers (including YN President Dr. Ryan Kobrick) are SEDS members or alumni. YN Assistant Director Brice Russ (another SEDS alumnus) crewed a Yuri’s Night booth at SpaceVision, handing out stickers, temporary tattoos, and stories about the World Space Party.
Of course, Yuri’s Night wasn’t the main draw of the weekend–luminaries from astronaut Story Musgrave to Lori Garver to Nobel laureate John Mather were all in attendance to share their knowledge with the next generation of space explorers. We’re looking forward to working with SEDS and SEDS members worldwide as we make our final preparations for the launch of Yuri’s Night 2015.
