Yuri’s Night continues to join with like-minded space and science organizations in the lead up to the April 12th celebrations. Most recently, Yuri’s Night has established partnerships with Astronomers Without Borders, YuriGagarin50, Spacevidcast, We Want Our Future, and Astronauts4Hire.
Astronomers Without Borders (AwB) brings together people from around the world who share a passion for the night sky. Founded in 2006 by Mike Simmons, AwB opens the sky to everyone by organizing astronomy events in many countries as well as webcasts of events like eclipses and meteor showers.
YuriGargarin50 is an organization set up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first human spaceflight and to help raise the profile of space in the UK. With activities planned around the UK, YuriGargarin50 will excite and engage the general public with space and recognize the significance of Yuri’s first spaceflight.
Spacevidcast, a weekly online HD space video podcast hosted by Ben and Cariann Higginbotham, draws thousands of fans from around the world each week to chat with space luminaries and get the latest updates from space launches and conferences. SVC, the 2010 recipient of the Space Frontier Foundation’s Best Presentation of Space Award, hosted the 2010 Yuri’s Night Global Webcast and is currently in preparations for the 2011 edition.
We Want Our Future, founded by Brad Cheetham, is a grassroots initiative dedicated to inspiring students across the country to dream about their future and recognize the importance of science, technology, engineering and math in making these dreams a reality.
Astronauts4Hire is a group of space activists and future astronauts dedicated to increasing the competitiveness of commercial astronaut candidates by providing skills training, facilitating forums for candidate communication, engaging with potential employers, and inspiring the next generation.
Yuri’s Night is proud to partner with these organizations that share our themes of global outreach, grassroots initative, and bringing space to the public. These organizations will engage in cross-promotional activities with Yuri’s Night and work together to improve Yuri’s Night events around the globe in 2011 and beyond.
