If you haven’t noticed, we’ve been slipping some new content onto yurisnight.net over the last couple weeks.
First off, if you are hunting for a soundtrack to accompany your Yuri’s Night event or simply to play while you plan for April 12, you should check out the space songs recorded by John Marmie, former Deputy Project Manager of the LCROSS mission and friend of Yuri’s Night. John’s music is awesome, inspired by his work for NASA and he’s still creating more (so watch for any future updates!).
Next, Yuri’s Night is launching a new Terms of Service agreement in a few days for our online services. I know, I know, just some legal mumbo jumbo, but it is important because it tells you what information we collect when you visit our site (visitor tracking etc.), how we protect any data you give us, and what we expect from you (no hacking or defacing the site). So please take a look and tweet or e-mail us any feedback you have.
After some discussions, we have decided to provide a new classification of parties on our site. You might have noticed this in our party ticker. We now have a category for “Virtual Worlds” for those parties that happen online, on the radio waves, and via online services. It currently includes the Spacevidcast cyber video broadcast, Third Rock Radio’s coverage, and events for those on Google+ or that donate computer processing time on BIONIC. So check those out, because anyone can participate in online Yuri’s Night events as long as they have a connection to the web.
Lastly, we wanted to let you know that if you go to a few special Yuri’s Night events in April, you may get a chance to see some very special Yuri’s Night swag that has actually flown in space! Our good friend Astronaut Ron Garan (shown with his crew above) was good enough to bring his Yuri’s Night shirt and some stickers and buttons back from the International Space Station. Here’s Ryan’s full post about the swag and where you can see it this April (with pictures!) and once again much thanks to Ron Garan for his support!
