In a little less than a week, the first Yuri’s Night 2009 events will begin. This year, Yuri’s Night will span 8 days, starting April 4th and going through April 12th (and beyond).
Here’s What you can do to help:
Find a Party: There are currently 140 Yuri’s Night parties scheduled around the world. Find the party closest to you. To find a party, use our interactive map or browse through the list. Remember, every party has it’s own RSVP policies, so visit the individual party’s Web site or contact the event’s organizer for details:

Yuri’s Night Co-creator George T. Whitesides now Senior Advisor at NASA

We are quite pleased to announce that Yuri’s Night co-creator, George T. Whitesides is now Senior Advisor at NASA Headquarters in Washington DC. Previously Whitesides was the Executive Director of the National Space Society and a Senior Advisor to Virgin Galactic. He is pictured here on a mock up of the Apollo 11 lunar lander used in the filming of the HBO special “From the Earth to the Moon” at the very first Yuri’s Night in 2001 being interviewed by MTV about Yuri’s Night and it’s vision of bringing together music and space.

Yuri’s Night Gear Page open
With less than two months until the start of Yuri’s Night 2009 (remember, YN2009 parties are running from April 4-12), events are being added every day and the new, revamped website is coming together. To that end, the new Yuri’s Night Gear website is now online; you can check it out at on the Yuri’s Night Gear Page.The most important part of the Gear page, of course, is the Party Pack, a perennial Yuri’s Night event favorite. This year’s Party Packs will feature the classic YN T-shirt, a lapel pin, light-up bouncy ball, and dozens of stickers and temporary tattoos. One comment we’ve frequently gotten from larger parties is that this just isn’t enough, that there should be an easier way to purchase extra bouncy balls or tattoos. We’ve listened to you and added the ability to purchase extras of individual items on the Gear page, right below the Party Pack entry.

Yuri’s Night affiliating with International Year of Astronomy
Careful watchers of the Yuri’s Night Calendar might have already noticed this, but we haven’t yet made an official announcement. This makes us very overdue to note that this year, Yuri’s Night will be affiliating with the International Year of Astronomy. The International Year of Astronomy, a project of the International Astronomical Union and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), is promoting astronomical awareness with special groups and events throughout the year 2009.Yuri’s Night is proud to be involved with this effort, and suggests that all interested YN parties look at working with local IYA efforts such as the 100 Hours of Astronomy.
