Information about the proposed changes for NASA

Hey, everyone!

Last Monday, as many of you have heard by now, President Obama and the White House released a series of proposed major changes for NASA and its role in future space exploration. We recognize that many people in our large international audience may have questions about what, exactly, will be happening to NASA, and so we’d like to share a few links that you can use to learn more about the issue.

Click here to read the “Overview Document” created by NASA to summarize the proposed changes. This is probably the best place to start. To read further announcements by NASA on this subject, check out their Budget Documents page.

NASAWatch has a list of stories about the proposed changes published by the major news outlets, and The Space Review has a good post outlining what various space-related organizations and people have said about the issue.

Two more quick notes:

1) No matter what your opinion is on this issue, it’s important to remember that this is only a proposal, not an official, final change in policy. This proposal must be approved by Congress as part of the upcoming year’s budget legislation, during which any number of changes could occur.

2) As always, Yuri’s Night remains in support of any efforts made towards international cooperation in expanding our presence in space.

Thanks, and Rock The Planet!
