Yuri’s Night 2009: Wrapup Post
Nearly a week after the last official day for Yuri’s Night events, we’re finally beginning to catch our breath and look back at the more than 200 (a new record!) parties and events that have been held around the world. Not to say that we’re completely done celebrating this year; the University of Michigan SEDS chapter hosted a fantastic event last night that was covered by the X PRIZE blog, and Orlando-area readers should make sure to check out tomorrow’s event hosted by SEDS at UCF. Still, it’s about time to start wrapping up Yuri’s Night 2009–and, of course, start looking forward to Yuri’s Night 2010.
First off, some serious thanks are in order. Thanks to Rory Collins, Kate Taylor Davis, Ryan Kobrick, Juergen Schlutz, Takeshi Hakemada, and everyone else who sent in information for our Yuri’s Night Party Profile series, definitely the longest one we’ve had in quite some time. Thanks also to Loretta Whitesides and Tim Bailey, leaders of our Global Team who always kept the ball rolling. And thanks, finally, to all of you reading this for your support for Yuri’s Night. Be you organizers, volunteers, or attendees, Yuri’s Night is brought to life by you and for you–and everyone else who shares our passion for space.
We’re going to have two more wrapup posts on the blog before closing out for the year; next week’s will provide the rundown on reports about Yuri’s Night parties in the media and elsewhere. We’ve been keeping track of these pretty closely, but if you know of a report or story you want to make sure gets into the summary, post a comment to this blog or send us an email. We’d especially love to hear about any video coverage you’ve received. Also make sure to check out our Flickr photo gallery at http://www.flickr.com/groups/yurisnight.
If you’re looking to build on the success of your Yuri’s Night event, or if you just had a great time helping out or attending one, consider joining our Yuri’s Night Global Team in 2010! Due to Yuri’s Night becoming more and more popular each year, we’re always looking for people of all specialties and experience levels to help with the support, promotion and coordination of YN events around the globe. We’ll be putting up the official descriptions and application forms in the future, but if you’d like to express your interest now or be notified when further information is available, let us know on our contact page at http://yurisnight.net/main/contact/.
Check back about once a week for the rest of our wrapup posts, and thanks again for helping us to Rock The Planet!
