How To Follow Yuri’s Night 2009

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

So let’s say you’re in the unfortunate position of being hours away from the nearest Yuri’s Night party, or yours has already come and gone–but you still want more. With 171 events officially registered four days into YN09, it’s likely that not many more will be showing up. So aside from throwing your own small Yuri’s Night get-together with a group of friends (something we heartily endorse, by the way), here are three ways to keep up with Yuri’s Night from the comfort of your own home:

1) Watch Yuri’s Night on uStream

This will be Yuri’s Night’s second year of cooperation with the video-streaming site uStream, known by many as the home of the Shiba Inu Puppycam Internet phenomenon. Parties from around the world, including YN Bay Area, broadcasted their events in real-time on the Internet last year, and events in Reno, Boulder and elsewhere are gearing up to do the same this April. Videos won’t be going on 24/7, but visit our uStream group (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/yuris-night) and our event list (http://yurisnight.net/parties/partylist.php) to see when to tune in.

2) Follow the latest updates on Twitter and Flickr

If you’re on Twitter–and it’s starting to seem like everyone is, nowadays–follow @YurisNight for the latest announcements and party updates, many of which are exclusive to the Twitter feed itself. We’ve had over 177 updates so far, and as the celebrations continue more are sure to follow.

Also make sure to check out the Yuri’s Night Flickr group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/yurisnight), where over 600 photos from current and past Yuri’s Night events have been uploaded. Pictures from YN Goddard and YN Space Coast are up for 09, so check those out and make sure to add photos from your own local event!

3) Join Yuri’s Night on Second Life

For an event that’s literally “out of this world”, stop by the virtual Second Life. Extropia has signed up for another event this year; though details are forthcoming, there’s bound to be several YN celebrations at some point throughout the week.

Party Profile: Boulder, Colorado

Monday, April 6th, 2009

The University of Colorado chapter of SEDS (Students for the Exploration and Development of Space) is gearing up for another exciting installment of Yuri’s Night Boulder. Last year’s event proved to be a rousing success, gaining worldwide attendance through the magic of uStream, and this year’s multi-day party looks to be even bigger.

Partygoers from “The People’s Republic of Boulder” and beyond will converge on the b.side Lounge on Thursday, April 9th, starting at 7 PM for an evening of dancing and music that continues into the wee hours of Friday. Areopagitica, The Piggies, and Other Side of Clearview are scheduled to perform at this show free for guests 21 and up. The first 100 people in get free custom patches, to boot!

On April 11, make sure to stop by the Fiske Planetarium for Astronomy Day, as YN Boulder helps to celebrate space and astronomy with attendees of all ages. Show up for the unveiling of new interactive exhibits, live talks, telescope viewings, family entertainment and, for the second straight year, free massages from Lifelong Massage! Also make sure to visit Yuri’s Night at the International Festival’s Russian Booth from 4-10 on April 11.

Yuri’s Night Boulder is sponsored by CU-SEDS, the Secure World Foundation, the CU Laboratory for Atmosphere and Space Physics, and the Aerospace Graduate Student Organization. For more information, visit http://boulder.yurisnight.net/.
